"At this tirae the City Manager informed the Planning
Commission that he has agreed to allow Super Valu to
install a temporary driveway off from Xerxes Avenue
North at a point approximately 178 Feet south of
Northway Drive; this entrance would be permitted
only for the "grand opening" period of four weeks
conmencing with the opening of the new Brookda3 e
Super Valu; the opening and closing of the curb

This is to follow through on our meeting today in your office
to discuss a curb -cut off of Yer"ses Avenue for our now Brook -
dale Super Valu.
As we ssLated, we feel very strongly that an entrance off Xerxes
is essential to the success of our new store, particularly
during our grand opening period. On the other hand, we under-
stand your thinking and that of the Planning C000a,+issian with
respect to this matter.
in an effort to reach some middle ground, we suggested that
Super Valu be permitted at its sole expense to install a curb -
cut and driveway off Xerxes at the point indicated on the plot
plan left with you, approximately 178 feet south of Northway
Drive; this entrance would be permitted only for a period of
four (4) weeks ccx<amencing with our opening for business. Upon
demand from you, at any time after the expiration of that four
week period, we will promptly remove tine driveway entrance,
are install the street curbing and restore the green -strip area.
We understand that you will recommend this plan to the Copoission
and advise us by return mail as to whether this suggested course
will t#a acceptable. I wish to aeub"Age• ryour statement that
you fully intend to request the removal of the proposed driveway
if formal permanent approval is not obtained prior to that time;
and I can assure you we will comply with any ,such demand. Of
course, the installation expense and any necessary restoration
will be entirely ours.
In the meantime, we intend to proceed to re -apply for the curb -
cut as a permanent installation, and you will ask Mr. Harmon
to semi us an application to initiate this procedure.
