Mr. Don Poss
City Administrator

Dear Don:
I am writing to reaffirm my company's objection to the granting of a special
use permit to Super Valu for a gasoline fueling station. As you know, we feel
rather strongly that the temporary curb cut granted Super Valu may well cause
congestion and create a hazardous condition when sufficient traffic is generated.
If the gas station is built the argument for making the curb cut a permanent one
is unduly strengthened and appears to be a way of backing into a situation. We
would hope that the curb cut be judged on the advantages and disadvantages of the
present situation before granting permits for other facilities which will rely on it.
Furthermore, as an adjacent land holder we feel that this facility does not fit
into our original concept for the Brookdale area and that it sets a dangerous
precedent. This precedent would weaken the City's position in dealing with
requests for similar facilities by other grocery stores (i.e. Red Owl, Country
Club, etc.) or other traffic generating single use facilities which were not
designed to handle gas stations.
In addition, I am somewhat concerned about the proliferation of gas stations,
particularly those on major city streets, and their effect on the visual image
of Brooklyn Center. I realize that the logical location for such facilities is on
major thoroughfares but I feel this can be overdone with the results being a
garrish hodgepodge.
Yours truly,
Dennis Albrecht
