1) During plan approval of the dealership plans this past
summer, it was the choice of Chrysler Motors to not request
sign approvals at that time, to avoid delay of construction.
No approvals or stipulations regarding signing were made
during other plait approvals.
POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED:
1) A site plan showing location of the signs proposed indicates
three freestanding signs in the used car area atop light
standards; one freestanding sign adjacent to the driveway
on Osseo Road; a sign above the garage door on the main
building; and fascia (wall signing) above the new car show-
room. As our ordinance presently is written, only the
freestanding signs require variance, but the others are being
submitted also for your review.
2) The size of the signs are as follows:
a) used car signs (freestanding) - 6 ft. x 6 ft. or 36
square feet with an overall height atop the light
standards of 24 feet above grade (an approximation,
as at the time of writing, the exact height is not
available), the signs to be rotating.
b) freestanding sign at Osseo Road entrance - roughly
231 x 12h feet or an area of 260 square feet with an
overall height above grade of 44h feet, with a rotating
pentastar on its •top.
c) service sign - a sign 3 x 6 feet or an area of 18 square
feet on the north wall of the building over the garage
door.
d) fascia (wall) sign - on the south, east and north walls
above the showroom will be installed illuminated sign
panels - there will be no sign message on the north or
south walls, so the area of the fascia sign is that of
the sign "Brookdale Chrysler -Plymouth" on the east (front)
wall with dimensions of 93' x 4' or area of 372 square feet.
With reference to the wall signs described above, the present
zoning ordinance would permit 734 square feet of wall signing,
so that the wall signs proposed are well within ordinance
limitations. (assuming that by no stretch of the imagination
can illuminated panels without message be considered a sign).
3) Reference should be made to the provisions of the proposed
Sign ordinance.
Li) Two other freestanding signs in the vicinity, those of Burger
King and Bridgeman's, are 24 feet and 27.4 feet, respectively,
above street grade. Another sign which will undoubtedly be
mentioned, Iten Chevrolet, is 39 feet above floor grade
of the building, or approximately 41 feet above the average
street grade; as you will recall however, certain_ conditions
were taken into consideration on the Zten sign than exist
at the Chrysler property.
